Comparing to Game Studios

We was tasked with looking at two game studios with at least one game with a urban environment and comparing them to each other.

Volition VS Rockstar Games



Games: Free Space Series, Red Faction Series, Saints Row Series, Summoner Series, The Punisher (2005).

Location: Champaign, Illinois.

Founder: Mike Kulas

About: Volition Inc is a games development company that works on games for PC and consoles. They was originally owned subsidiary by THQ before they became bankrupted, until Koch Media GmbH bought the studio in January 2015.

Rockstar Games


Games: Grand Theft Auto, L.A. Noire, Manhunt, Max Payne, Midnight Club, Red Dead Redemption.

Location: Multiple Locations.

Founder: Sam Houser, Terry Donovan, Dan Houser, Jamie King, and Gary Foreman.

About: Rockstar Games is a Games Company that make games for all gaming platforms and was founded in 1998. They are subsidiary owned by Take-Two Interactive Software Inc.

Comparison Between Both Companies

Volition Games (Known for the Saints Row Series) takes a lot of inspiration from Rockstar’s games which gets both there games, Saints Row and Grand Theft Auto, Compared frequently as both are executed similarly but with the main difference being the Character development. This is shown as Saints Rows Characters are more comedic compared to the characters used in GTA.

The Environment of Both Game Series are both Based on City Locations of USA, with a new location almost each game, but the main difference being that Saints Rows landscapes are more Colorful with Neon Lights sprinkled around certain parts of the environment and GTA focus on keeping there, environments close to there real life counterpart.
